  • Measured Mile speed - 182.544mph.

  • Top Speed - 188mph

  • FIM Record (original goal) 166.785

  • SCTA Record 192.993 (2025 goal)

Vendetta Racing have been fortunate enough to tick off various big racing bucket list items over the years.  Raced the Isle of Man TT course twice, Competed in Dakar 3 times, various off-road world championships and countless national circuit races among them.
Racing on the historic Bonneville Salt flats is a perfect complement to the afore mentioned accolades, even more so as its for a world record.

The record in question was the FIM the A-BG-1000cc class. This class is defined as 1000cc capacity, 2 cylinder, non-naturally aspirated (Turbo/Supercharger/Nitrous is allowed) and non-streamlined, a naked, non faired bike.

The Set Back:
We had shipped our container in a timley manner, we should have had 3 weeks of a buffer before the Bonneville Motorcycle Speed Trials (BMST) but it wasn't to be.  Our container routing changed causing so much of a delay we missed the event completely.
This means we had no way of running for the FIM record which we had prepped and licensed for.

The Save:
The Utah Salt Flats Racing Association (USFRA) runs an event shortly after the BMST called the 'World of Speed'.  After numerous phone calls we entered into the event knowing that the classes and regulations are slightly different so with minor bike modifications, we could still get to run.
The SCTA record for this event is 192.993 which was a tall order for an untested bike and we had to run though 4 different licenses to get there along with being restricted to the short course (2 mile run up, 1 mile measured)

We had some miss-runs during our 4 days, (clutch slipping, binding brake, popping the plenum off the intake), but we worked though our licenses up to a 'B' license which allows us to run up to 200mph, and more importantly opening up Priscilla enough to see how close we could get to the 192.993 record.
Our final run seen us claim a measured mile of 182.544 and a top speed of 188.  We also qualified to run the long course (2 mile run up, average speed measured between the 2-3, 3-4 and 4-5 including measuring the exit speed through the 5 mile)
We had run out of time to run again and once back to the pits, noticed we had popped the head gasket.

For a team out of the desert with no salt racing experience on a home built untested bike, we did pretty well. We ran almost 16mph more than our FIM goal (we cant claim the record as it wasn't an FIM Event) and got a good sniff at the SCTA record which was set using a 4 cylinder suzuki engine.

We have learned a huge amount, we know what we need to modify and are already planning to beat the current record in 2025!

Land-speed trials are all about going faster than anyone has gone before on a mile-long course over perfectly level terrain at Bonneville Salt Flats. Classes are determined by engine displacement, modification levels and various degrees of streamlining, and encompass everything from small-displacement racers to high-powered, custom-built streamliners made for the sole purpose of topping 500 mph.

Some classes are more serious than others, with participants ranging from weekend enthusiasts chasing double-digit mph speed records on small-bore motorcycles to professional race teams fielding million-dollar engineering masterworks.

The World of Speed event, organised by the Utah Salt Flats Racing Association is run under the SCTA regulations for both cars and motorcycles.
